PickUp Score

Effective August 22, 2026

The short version

PickUp Score collects the minimum needed to run a scoreboard you can come back to: your name and email for your scorer account, the games you finish, and product analytics that tell us whether features get used. We do not sell your data, show ads, or track you across other apps. People watching a display never need an account and are never identified.

What we collect

Account details. Your name, email address, password, and an optional nickname when you sign up as a scorer. Accounts are stored with our database provider, Supabase. Your password is hashed by Supabase and we never see it.

Game data. The games you finish: team names and colours, scores, fouls, format, start and finish times, and — in roster games — the player first names you add, with each player’s points and fouls. Player names are free text you type; do not add anything a teammate would not want stored. Game data is tied to your account and only you can read it.

Usage analytics. Events such as “game created”, “display paired”, “score recorded”, and “voice command used”, plus the screens you open, sent to PostHog. Once you sign in these are tied to your account ID and email so we can tell whether scorers come back. Before sign-in, and on the display, they are anonymous. Voice events record only that a command was understood — never what you said.

What we do not collect

Location, contacts, photos, or audio recordings. The app has no camera access: the QR code on the display is scanned with your iPhone’s own camera, outside the app. There are no ads, no advertising identifiers, and no App Tracking Transparency request, because there is nothing to track.

Microphone and voice scoring

Voice scoring is optional. If you turn it on, the app asks iOS for microphone and speech recognition permission and uses Apple’s speech recogniser on your iPhone to turn what you say into text. The app reads that text to find commands like “two for Team A” and discards it. Audio is never recorded, stored, or sent to us. Apple’s handling of speech recognition is covered by Apple’s privacy policy. Every feature works by tap if you decline.

Display pairing

When you pair a display, the live game state — team names, scores, fouls, the clock, and roster names with their stats — is sent through Supabase’s realtime service to the screen showing your six-digit code. Anyone who enters that code can watch that game while it is running; treat the code like the gym’s scoreboard, not a password. If you sign in on the display too, it connects to your account automatically and shows your name. Nothing about the display is stored on our servers; it only relays.

What the app stores on your device

The game in progress (so a reload does not lose the score), your sign-in session, and display preferences such as layout, brightness, team colours, and courtside mode. This lives in the app’s private storage on your iPhone and is removed when you delete the app.

Third parties

The app is hosted on Vercel; accounts, game data, and realtime pairing run on Supabase; analytics run on PostHog. Each processes data on our behalf under its own security practices. The app also contains crash-reporting code (Sentry) that is switched off in the current release; if we turn it on, reports will be scrubbed of personal information and we will update this policy and the App Store privacy label. We do not sell, rent, or share your information with anyone else.

Deleting your data

Signing out or deleting the app clears what is on your phone but leaves your account and saved games on the server. To delete a single game or your whole account, email jonahs@28digitalstudio.com from the address you signed up with. We remove the account, games, box scores, saved players, and analytics identity within 30 days and confirm by reply. An in-app delete option is planned; until it ships, email is the path.

Children

PickUp Score is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, email us and we will remove it.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that matters — new data collected, a new third party — the effective date above changes with it and we will note it here. This policy covers the iOS app and the web app at pickupscore.app, which share the same backend.
