Common questions

Do I need an account?

To keep score, yes — sign up with your name, email, and a password so your games save to your history. The display side never needs one: anyone can open pickupscore.app/display/pair on a TV, laptop, or projector and show the code.

How do I get the scoreboard onto the big screen?

Open pickupscore.app/display/pair in any browser on the screen you want to use. It shows a six-digit code and a QR code. In the app, tap New Game and type the code into the Display code field, or scan the QR with your iPhone camera to open setup with the code filled in. If you are signed in on both the phone and the display, they connect automatically without a code.

Why does it ask for the microphone and speech recognition?

Only for optional voice scoring on the live-game screen. Tap the mic and say things like "Team A 2", "Three pointer Team B", "Free throw Team A", "Foul Team A", or "Undo". In roster games, "Jordan 3" credits the bucket to Jordan. Speech is recognised by iOS on your iPhone; the app only receives the text and never records or uploads audio. Decline the permission and everything still works by tap.

The display stopped updating or is behind the phone.

Both the phone and the display need an internet connection — scores travel through our realtime service, not over local Wi-Fi. The app reconnects on its own when a connection drops. If the display still lags, reload the display page to mint a fresh code, then enter the new code on the phone from the Pairing screen.

Where are my games stored, and can I delete one?

Finished games save to your account on our server (hosted by Supabase) so they appear in The Book on any device you sign into. There is no delete button for individual games yet. Email us with the game date and team names and we will remove it.

How do I delete my account?

Email us from the address you signed up with and ask for deletion. We remove your account, your saved games, box scores, and saved players within 30 days and confirm by reply. An in-app delete option is on the way.

Why doesn't my phone lock during a game?

The live-game screen keeps your iPhone awake so the score is always a tap away. The lock timer goes back to normal as soon as you leave that screen.

Does it work offline?

Not fully. Pairing a display, auto-connect, and saving a finished game all need a connection. If the app reloads mid-game, the game in progress is restored from your phone so you do not lose the score.
